CLINICAL SPECIALTIES
PARENT-CHILD INTERACTION THERAPY (PCIT) & IMPROVING FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS
If your child is struggling with emotion regulation, maintaining attention, practicing safe behaviors, and following your directions, PCIT will teach you how to help them build up each of these skillsets. PCIT shows you, as the caregiver, how to be your child's therapist at home so that you feel equipped to manage any situation at any time. Through the use of positive attention and consistent, predictable discipline, you will enhance your relationship with your child and will learn critical skills to manage their behavior, decrease aggression, and increase compliance. PCIT is appropriate for children ages 2.5 through 7 years old and their caregivers, and can be provided with adaptations for children as young as 12 months and as old as 10 years old.
You may feel confused and stuck in your relationship with your child or other family members, but are looking for a different approach than PCIT. Learning new strategies or looking at your relationship from a different lens will help you feel more confident in supporting your loved one, managing difficult behavior, and developing stronger relationships with your family. We will work together to find an approach that is individually tailored to help you reach your treatment objectives using evidence-based interventions. Common goals include improving communication, assertiveness skills, and behavior systems to support children.
IMPROVING MOOD, REDUCING ANXIETY, & WORKING THROUGH TRAUMA
We all carry different struggles with us as we navigate the world. You may feel irritable, find yourself second-guessing choices, have difficulty getting out of bed in the morning, or feel stuck in a loop since experiencing something difficult. Sometimes you may not even know why you're feeling the way you are. Through therapy, you will examine your experiences to gain insight and learn concrete strategies to help yourself feel calm, safe, and able to challenge negative thoughts.
We will work together using an individualized approach and evidence-based interventions so that you can achieve your goals. By combining increased insight and specific skills, you will feel more confident, calm, and better equipped to notice when you may need to make a change in the moment to help yourself. Common goals include reducing anxiety, increasing positive experiences, processing trauma to reduce its impact on day-to-day functioning, and improving self-esteem.
